Testing capabilities

Vibration and shock testing

The UKAS schedule covers sinusoidal and random vibration, plus shock, within its detailed environmental-test scope. Alphatech’s current vibration page describes a 40 kN Sentek M4040A system for sine, random, shock and mixed-mode tests, and an 8.9 kN LDS V730 system mounted to a temperature chamber. The applicable force, acceleration, displacement, fixture and temperature conditions must be agreed for the selected test.

Climatic, temperature and humidity testing

Alphatech’s current environmental page describes climatic chambers for steady-state and cyclic testing. The UKAS schedule separately lists accredited high-temperature, low-temperature, change-of-temperature, thermal-shock and high-humidity scope. Chamber capacity, humidity temperature and rate-of-change figures are source- and configuration-specific rather than a single combined operating envelope.

Altitude and low-pressure testing

The operator describes three small vacuum chambers for simulating low pressure at altitude, including a largest chamber with external-test-equipment access. The UKAS schedule lists low-pressure (altitude) testing within the accredited scope. Confirm the chamber, test pressure, sample envelope and any powered-operation arrangement for the item being tested.

HALT and HASS

The operator describes highly accelerated life testing (HALT) and highly accelerated stress screening (HASS). The UKAS schedule lists both using a Qualmark Typhoon 2.5 HALT/HASS chamber under documented in-house procedure AOI-24 revision 6. The schedule’s test limits and method apply only as stated in that scope.

Equipment and published limits

Published equipment limits and conditions
SpecificationPublished valueConditions
Climatic chambers200 to 1,500 litres; −70°C to +180°C at up to 20°C/minPublished by the operator for its range of climatic chambers. The UKAS schedule separately lists accredited high-temperature and low-temperature scope, each with a maximum chamber size of 0.95 m × 1.5 m × 0.95 m. Do not assume every chamber, sample or accredited method can use the full published range together.
HumidityOperator page: 15%RH to 95%RH between +20°C and +95°CThe UKAS schedule’s accredited high-humidity entry instead lists 15%RH to 95%RH at 20°C to 85°C. These are source-specific statements that may reflect different equipment or accreditation conditions. Do not assume the operator’s +95°C figure is within the UKAS-accredited scope without written confirmation.
Primary vibration system40 kN peak force; 100 g peak acceleration; 2 m/s maximum velocity; 2 Hz to 2,000 Hz; ±38 mm maximum displacementThe operator attributes these figures to its Sentek M4040A shaker with 700 mm × 700 mm slip table. The UKAS schedule separately records 40 kN vibration entries and 76 mm peak-to-peak displacement. Confirm test type, waveform, fixture, sample mass and whether a value is part of the accredited method.
Combined vibration and temperature8.9 kN peak force; 75 g peak acceleration; 2 Hz to 2,000 Hz; ±25 mm maximum displacementThe operator attributes these figures to an LDS V730 single-axis shaker mounted to a temperature chamber. The UKAS schedule contains separate 8.9 kN dynamic entries with specified temperature, ramp-rate and chamber conditions. Do not combine figures across sources or assume all extrema apply together.
Accredited low-pressure scopeMinimum pressure 4.49 kPa, equivalent to 70,000 ft; maximum chamber size 0.3 m diameter × 0.5 m deepThese are the UKAS schedule’s low-pressure (altitude) values. They are not interchangeable with the operator page’s separately described largest-chamber dimensions, and do not establish acceptance of a particular powered item or test profile.
HALT/HASS scope−90°C to +200°C; up to 60°C/min; 60 g RMS from 10 Hz to 5 kHz; maximum item mass 220 kg; maximum item size 500 mm cubeThese limits are listed in the UKAS schedule for HALT and HASS using the Qualmark Typhoon 2.5 chamber. They do not establish a combined guaranteed envelope for every sample, instrumentation arrangement or test sequence.

Standards and accreditation

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation
UKAS schedule 2645, issued 3 July 2026, states that Alphatech is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for testing performed at the listed Haverhill address. Accreditation applies to the detailed scope in that schedule; it is not evidence that every operator service or requested configuration is accredited.
Vibration and shock
The current UKAS schedule lists, among other references, BS EN 60068-2-6 for sinusoidal vibration, BS EN 60068-2-64 for random vibration and BS EN 60068-2-27 for shock. It also lists selected DEF STAN, MIL-STD and RTCA/DO-160 references. Confirm the exact edition, procedure and scope entry needed for the programme.
Climatic, humidity and low pressure
The schedule lists relevant BS EN 60068 entries including -2-1, -2-2, -2-13, -2-14, -2-30, -2-38 and -2-78, with detailed editions and conditions. The operator’s service pages also name standards, but the UKAS schedule is the source used here for accreditation scope.
HALT and HASS procedure
For HALT and HASS, the schedule cites documented in-house procedure AOI-24 revision 6. That is a named internal procedure in the accredited schedule, not a substitute for the contractual external standard or acceptance criteria for a programme.

What to confirm with the facility

  • The UKAS schedule defines test types, equipment conditions and standards by scope entry. Do not treat ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation as applying automatically to every Alphatech service, every published chamber value or every requested configuration.
  • The operator’s environmental page publishes humidity to +95°C, while the UKAS schedule’s accredited high-humidity entry states 20°C to 85°C. The sources may describe different equipment or accreditation conditions. Confirm whether the intended humidity profile is within the applicable accredited scope.
  • Published vibration, altitude and HALT/HASS values belong to particular systems and schedule entries. They do not show that maximum force, temperature, pressure, sample size, mass and instrumentation conditions can be achieved simultaneously.
  • The reviewed sources provide an enquiry route but do not publish current availability, price, lead time, sample acceptance, export/security controls or reporting terms. Obtain these directly from Alphatech before arranging shipment.

Before requesting a test

  • Provide the item’s dimensions, mass, centre of gravity, fixture and harness details, and identify any powered operation or external instrumentation needed during the test.
  • State the requested method and edition, waveform or environmental profile, acceptance criteria, required measurements and reporting format.
  • For humidity, vibration-temperature, altitude or HALT/HASS work, ask which equipment configuration and accredited scope entry applies to the requested profile.
  • Confirm sample acceptance, availability, handling and shipping requirements, export or security constraints, quotation, lead time and test-report delivery before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers request testing at Alphatech’s Haverhill laboratory?

Alphatech’s homepage says the laboratory performs tests on behalf of clients and with clients on site, and its online form includes a Test House enquiry type. That provides an official enquiry route. It does not establish a current booking, price, lead time or acceptance of a particular item, so those points need confirmation directly with Alphatech.

Is the Haverhill laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025?

UKAS schedule 2645, issued 3 July 2026, says Alphatech is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for testing at its listed Haverhill address. The detailed schedule defines the accredited tests, standards and conditions. It should not be read as evidence that every service or configuration advertised by the operator is accredited.

Is Alphatech’s published +95°C humidity capability within the UKAS-accredited scope?

The operator’s environmental page publishes 15%RH to 95%RH between +20°C and +95°C. The UKAS schedule’s high-humidity entry lists 15%RH to 95%RH at 20°C to 85°C. The sources may concern different equipment or accreditation conditions, so Arc does not infer that +95°C humidity is accredited. Ask Alphatech to confirm the applicable scope and configuration.

Does the 8.9 kN vibration system support a combined temperature test?

Alphatech’s vibration page describes an LDS V730 single-axis shaker mounted to a temperature chamber and publishes 8.9 kN peak force, 75 g peak acceleration, 2 Hz to 2,000 Hz and ±25 mm displacement. The UKAS schedule has separate 8.9 kN dynamic entries with stated temperature, ramp-rate and chamber conditions. Confirm the required waveform, temperature profile, fixture and accredited method rather than combining all published values.

What HALT/HASS conditions does the UKAS schedule list?

For HALT and HASS using a Qualmark Typhoon 2.5 chamber, the schedule lists −90°C to +200°C, a maximum rate of change of 60°C/min, 60 g RMS from 10 Hz to 5 kHz, a maximum item mass of 220 kg and a maximum item size of a 500 mm cube. These values are part of a scope entry and do not guarantee that every sample, profile and instrumentation setup is acceptable together.
